Electrical Faults Prevention in Winter.

Electrical faults can be expensive to repair. Use these 3 tips for Electrical Faults Prevention in Winter.

Our Perth electricians are always looking for ways to prevent electrical issues from occurring especially over the winter period. If you can do these 3 things, you will be doing everything you can to minimise the likelihood of getting an electrical fault because of the rain.

1. CHECK THE GUTTERS

Check that your gutters are not full of leaves. You will need to clean your gutters as the water will hit the leaves and run back into the eves. Once there, the water will find its way into light fittings and other electrical equipment installed on the eves.

2. INSPECT THE ROOF

While you are still on the roof, walk around and inspect all of your roof tiles for breaks or cracks. Seal these with silicone or replace the tile if you have spare. If you have a tin roof, look for rust spots and holes in the roof. Seal these with silicone as well and consider getting a roof plumber to repair the issue.

3. TEST THE RCDS

Check that your residual current devices (RCDs) are operating by pushing the test button to ensure that it trips. They should trip out immediately after you push the button, if they don't, give us a call.

4. CHECK THE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

Make sure that all of your external electrical equipment is in good condition. Make sure all of the seals are good and that there are no obvious signs of water ingress from last winter. Look for rust marks on the electrical equipment.

If you need an electrician in Perth because of an electrical fault, please give us a call or send us a message and we will be happy to help you out when you are in a time of electrical need. :)
